Why Fes is different
Fes is less about major standalone attractions and more about understanding how the old city functions as a living place of craft, religion, trade and daily life.
This is one city where a strong local guide can change the quality of the experience dramatically.
How long to stay
Two nights can work, but three nights gives more breathing room if you want food, crafts, architecture or a day trip beyond the city.
Fes also works well as a bridge between Chefchaouen and the Middle Atlas or as the northern anchor of a longer journey toward the Sahara.
A better Fes day
Instead of trying to see everything, we prefer a focused medina day with pauses for food, workshops and conversation, followed by a slower evening.
